Super 8 Alnico Monitor: Pure listening enjoyment!
Some compare the sonic (and magnetic) differences between Alnico Magnets (Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt) and Ferrite Magnets (Strontium Ferrite), akin to the sonic differences found in tube amps compared to solid state amps: “ …(a) solid state amp gives it all its got then clips hard, while a tube amp compresses nice and smooth.”
No matter the physics, Alnicos are the best sounding drivers I’ve ever heard. That’s why they’re now standard equipment in all Omega upper-end speakers.
Yes, they’re more expensive to manufacture compared to ferrites, but in my opinion Alnico drivers are one of the best investments you can make to upgrade your listening experience.

Super 8 Alnico XRSs incorporate a new Aperiodic vent. A ‘lossy,’ down-firing vent, helping the speakers perform at a level sonically larger than their physical size.
Aperiodic vents deliver improved musical purity, because the drivers are transient perfect; Something not achieved by traditional vented enclosures.
Like all Omega XRS-style speakers, Super 8 Alnico XRSs interact with your room to extend bass output. And built-in brass cones tilt the front of the speaker slightly for optimal soundstaging.
Like other XRS models, this speaker is ‘room friendly,’ working well in a variety of room placements — even close to your corners and back walls.
This model shares design characteristics found in Omega’s smaller XRS speakers, including:
- Extended bass response
- Short cabinet heights, which virtually eliminates cabinet flex and resonance problems, translating into pure, uncluttered mids and highs
